The Society met at Phillack Church Hall for the first time on Friday 25th March at 7:30pm, for lovely cake made by Joanna and tea and coffee organised by Caroline - thank you.

Howard Lyons deftly chaired the inaugural meeting and supervised the election of Society officers:

Chair: Aimee Middlemiss

Treasurer: Andrew Hollinshead

Secretary: Simon Allen

Membership: Carole McLaughin

Social secretary: Joanna Kwiatkowska # 12

Council Liaison: Dick Horwell

Website officer: Carol Clarke

It was agreed that anyone can be a member of the Allotment Society, whether they have one or not, and that we would love allotmenters from other sites to be involved with us.

Town Council Liaison:

Dick reported that there are plans underway for a gate to be put at the allotments and this will be raised again with the Town Clerk. He also asked allotmenters to be careful with water usage - if the bill to the Council is too high, rents will have to be raised. The Council are also planning to add a skip to the site for rubbish.

Future events

Food Growing Workshop - will take place on Saturday 2nd April with Ruth Swale from Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change. Rough times are 10 - 3 but members can drop in and out. Please let Aimee know if you want to take part.

Plans for social events for the society were discussed, including an Easter Egg Hunt, Children's Sunflower Competition and liaison with the Rose and Cabbage Society for a Summer Show. We also plan a summer barbecue and a Harvest event, as well as another seed order over the winter.

We are also considering raising money to purchase a Society Shed for communal equipment and social events - let us know what you think. Perhaps a communal polytunnel might be more useful?

Next meeting:

Friday 6th May, venue tba, all welcome

NB: seed ordering: if you want to order some seeds from Dobie's, please see Aimee at number 11 or call on 01736 757667 - I have catalogues and will be sending in an order on 4th April.
