Dear Allotment Holder

Allotment Update

It has been some time since I last wrote so I thought I should update and share information with you all.

As you will know, there are a number of new allotment tenants and I am pleased to see that many of the previously uncared for allotments have been re-let in recent weeks and are either already transformed or, at least, beginning to show the signs of being worked. I visited the allotments on 3 June 2014 and looked at all plots and was heartened to see that most are now being used and maintained well. There are, however, a few that still need attention and I have included a second letter for those few tenants that need to address this matter.

I wanted to let you know that during the next two weeks there will be a team of volunteers working, at various times, at the allotment site. I have asked them to give the whole site a general tidy up, which includes cutting the grass footpaths (some of you kindly maintain yours but others are impassable), establishing a communal composting area on what would have been plot 13, trimming and clearing the access strip plot 13, clearing up the parking area where the top soil/mulch was delivered (see below) and, time and weather permitting, rotavating and sowing grass on the area allocated for the cemetery extension. They have also said that if any tenants required any specific assistance with their plots they will try to assist if you let them know.

A few tenants have voiced concern that a significant amount of top soil/manure/mulch was delivered to the site for everyone’s use. This is a lovely gesture but in future please be reminded that any such deliveries should ideally be dropped to your own plot, be placed on top of a tarpaulin, not on the graveled car parking areas and especially not close to any other individuals plots. Unfortunately a large mess has been left behind on the car park but this should be addressed in the next couple of weeks. If another substantial drop is arranged perhaps this could be delivered to the unused plot 13 to save the car park? Access to this and the new composting area should not be a problem.

It has also been reported to me that some tenants have been using a hose pipe. We politely remind you that use of hosepipes are not permitted. All tenants should use watering cans to water their plants and we encourage individuals to collect their own water too.
