Useful advice on freezing vegetables, if you've got room!
Hayle Allotment Strimmer available!
As agreed at the last meeting, we have a rechargeable battery operated grass strimmer available to society members.
It's a Bosch one - Aimee tried it out and the battery life was a bit short on the first strim, but hopefully it'll improve after the second charge.
Pending the aquisition of a shed, it's at Aimee's house. If you want to borrow it call 757667. The idea is that you charge it yourself as required, so you may need to plan ahead.
Onion rot - the lowdown from RHS
Aimee says: I've got onion rot! Nightmare! Lost 50 onions, may have saved 20. All that weeding gone to waste...
It may have come into my plot on the sets, or it may be in the site soil - lasts for 15 years. Signs are yellowing foliage and when you pull the onions up they have white fluff on the base.
See the link for more info. Hope you aren't afflicted too.
Hayle in Bloom judging day 14th July - Allotments feature! Please come!
Hayle in Bloom will be judged on Thursday 14th July and the judges will be coming to look at the allotments in the morning.
I will put up a definite time nearer the time, but it's looking like between 10-12. If anyone can come down to the site and show their support on that day, it would be great.
By the way:
I have left some flower plants in trays on the grass path near #5 which need sticking in the top of the wall or at the front of it - if anyone has time to put some in that would be amazingly helpful.

Blooming Hayle - Allotment Society Stall on Sunday 26th June
BLOOMING HAYLE
Hayle Allotment Society will be running a stall on King George's Walk on Sunday 26th June (2-5) at the Hayle in Bloom family celebration day.
The idea is to sell allotment produce and cakes to raise money and awareness of the Society, and to support Hayle in Bloom and generally be community-minded.
Please let Aimee know if you can help or donate allotment produce and/or cakes. So far, I have kind offers of potatoes from Sue and Steve and Nigel, bagged salad from Tina and Jane, cakes and produce from Carole and Joanna, and I have mangetout / sugarsnaps and some courgette and parsley plants.
If people could drop stuff off to Aimee's house on the morning (13 Caroline Row) or bring it along on the day, that would be fabulous. I will probably pop up to the allotments Sunday morning too, so you can hand stuff over if you see me.
General weeding - thanks to everyone who is doing it...
Thanks to everyone who has done some weeding of public areas / empty plots at Lethlean Lane - it will help all of us by reducing next year's weed seeds...Bob has been doing lots, also Denzil, Carole M, Carol and Russell, Alan, Ruth, Simon A, Aimee etc. Much appreciated.
Free manure available, Upton Towans
We have been offered free horse manure from the stables at Bar Lane, which is a little road off Upton Towans opposite Western Blocks concrete factory.
If you would like some, please take your own bags and spade and go along - you are likely to catch the owners there on weekdays between 9am and 12 or around 5pm.
Many thanks to Jane for the offer.
"Blocking" of turf paths - latest after Council meeting of 2nd June
Aimee went to the Council meeting last Thursday at which gating of turf paths was discussed again. Unfortunately for procedural reasons the Council couldn't make a definite decision at that meeting but the upshot is that the Council are shelving the issue for now and will rediscuss at the end of the growing season, probably Oct/ Nov. In the meantime, fences and gates can stay but new people mustn't put new fences over paths. We had a lot of support from councillors, particularly John Bennett, in relation to finding a sensible negotiated solution.
