Harvested the first of the lovely Red Potatoes kindly shared by Carole called Potato 'Sarpo Mira'.
Despite being stuck under the surprise polytunnel for the last few months (and so probably a bit underwatered) they grew brilliantly. Lovely clean potatoes and make excellent Jacket Potatoes.

Growing Potatoes - what worked well in 2011?
#1f497d; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Potatoes grown by Carole #15: Earlies were Charlotte – good flavour and yield. Also Anya which is a fab although unusual salad potato. Maincrops were Lady Balfour ( naturally blight resistant – huge yield and good flavour especially as jacket potatoes!) and Sarpo Mira which are blight resistant red skins with a good flavour and a good yield.
#1f497d; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Potatoes grown by Aimee #11: Second earlies were Orla (12 planted), excellent taste and yield but I left them in too long (March - June) and they got a bit big! Also Nicola salad potatoes (about 16 planted?), great yield but not waxy enough for my taste. Maincrop was Desiree (red skins) (about 30 planted in April), which got blight in the leaves but still gave a good yield, pretty good taste but will probably try something else next year. All of them really well formed and clean, very impressed! will be eating them for months to come.
